Hi Roksana. Thank you for your thoughtful response! I absolutely agree with you that thinking about other people is a critical aspect of living a good life. What I didn’t mention in this article is how meditation can lead to compassion, not just for oneself but for others, as well.

In the mindful observation of our own struggles, it becomes apparent that we are not alone in our suffering — we conclude that everyone is likely suffering in similar ways. In this conclusion lies the opportunity to perceive everyone through a new lens, a lens that allows us to interpret their actions in light of their suffering. This deep understanding of actions and suffering leads to compassion, which is an integral part of Buddhist teachings and, I think, an integral part of life.
